Bassin Fine Art announces the opening of 'BON APPÉTIT' by acclaimed St. Croix artist Jane Akin.

From vineyard and bistro scenes of France to our own back yard on St. Croix, Jane Akin delivers a feast for the eyes with her one woman show 'BON APPÉTIT'! Jane says, "My inspiration for this show came from my love of food and wine. Not only do I love to go out to eat but I also have a passion for cooking. I always say, paint what you love"! As one of St. Croix's most treasured artists, Jane is known for her rich vibrant colors, playful humor and whimsy. She says "I always work with pure colors that work well together and give the painting unity." When gazing at Red Red Wine featured in 'BON APPETIT', you see Jane's mastery of watercolor, how the colors mingle, "glazing" one over another, creating luminosity, allowing the pigment to "bloom," and creating texture with salt or dry brush. "Last year I found myself painting several of my favorite restaurants on St. Croix, some abroad that I would love to go to, and after visiting the ag fair in 2011, I came home with some photos of food grown on St. Croix and started painting them. So Bon Appétit!".

Jane received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas. Before moving to St. Croix in 1998 she worked as an interior designer and has painted fulltime since moving to the Virgin Islands. She is the Artist in Residence at the Buccaneer Hotel as well as teaching her popular classes in watercolor and drawing at her studio in Estate Boetzberg.
